Islamist party also known as IKATAN launched and led by former seven-term Kulim-Bandar Baharu constituency MP Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir. Fadzir was joined by former UMNO members disaffected with the non-Islamist direction of new UMNO leaders after it was legalized on May 15, 2015. IKATAN then formed the Gagasan Sejahtera (GS) alliance in 2016 together with the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front (BERJASA) and the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS).
