Description | Center-left party with an appeal to middle-rank state sector employees and retired union workers. Party is a successor to the Democratic Left Alliance (Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej) dissolved on January 27, 2020, using the abbreviation SLD as the former party did. Party was formed after the New Left (Nowa Lewica, NL) suffered a debilitating split beginning in December 14, 2021. One group of dissidents departed to re-form and revive the Polish Socialist Party (PPS). The second group, led by ex-Left politician Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka (earlier of the dissolved Spring party) and deputies Joanna Senyszyn, Andrzej Rozenek and Robert Kwiatkowski (all previously members of the old SLD), launched the Democratic Left Association, calling itself the only 'true' electoral alternative to the New Left. Party suffered a setback on March 9, 2023 when the District Court in Warsaw banned the Democratic Left Association from using the logo of the old SLD party. Party replaced "SLD" with a red rose [Stowarzyszenie Lewicy Demokratycznej (SLD)].] |
