Description | Social-democratic 'eco-socialist' party active in the Tyrol region of Italy with decades-long roots in the 'New Left' movement. Party began as a regional section of the Federation of the Greens, using various names to identify itself [New Left (1978), Alternative List (1983) and Green Alternative List (1988)]. Party declared itself independent of the Federation in 1993, then settled on 'Greens of South Tyrol' or 'Greens'. Party became the popular 'Nord Italia' choice of larger left-of-center parties as alliance partners. Party joined and co-launched the Greens and Left Alliance (Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, AVS) with the Italian Left (SI and the Green Europe (EV) parties on July 2, 2022. Party has been co-led by Felix Wohlgemuth and Marlene Pernstich since December 10, 2019. Party holds three seats in the 35-seat South Tyrol Regional Council [Grüne Südtirol or Verdi–Grüne–Vërc (VGV)]. |
