| Description | Center-right party founded by anti-Medellin cartel crusader, Senator Luis Carlos Galán (assassinated by the Colombian Mafia on July 20, 1989). Party began as an offspring of the mainstream Colombian Liberal Party, gathering a growing following, but when Medellin cartel kingpin Pablo Escobar tried to take over the party through muscle and murder, Galán defiantly exposed it publicly, resulting in his murder in 1989. Party collapsed upon his death but was revived in 2021 by his son, 2022 presidential candidate, author and MP Juan Manuel Galán. Party is a member of the Hope Coalition [Partido Nuevo Liberalismo (PNL)]. |
