Centrist Hungarian-interests organization that is the largest political force of Hungarians in Romania. Organization calls itself a 'Federation of minority interests' which include, in particular, the Szeklers (Hungarian székelyek) - a Hungarian ethnographic group of Turkish origin located in the Covasna and Harghita counties of Romania. Federation intentionally avoids registering itself as a political party. After the fall of Nicolae Ceausescu in 1989, the Federation established itself quickly in reaction to anti-Hungarian tensions spreading in Transylvania. Federation rarely picks up more than 6.5% of the popular vote, which is equal to the percentage of ethnic Hungarians living in Romania (mainly in Transylvania). The Federation arises more as important coalition partner and 'kingmaker'. The Federation has been led by Romania's curent deputy prime minister Hunor Kelemen since 2011 [Uniunea Democrată Maghiară din România (UDMR); Romániai Magyar Demokrata Szövetség, (RMDSZ)].
