Description | Formerly leftist party turned centrist originally launched as Ruptura 25 (R25). R25 was a founding member of the defunct Alianza PAIS (re-born as the MOVER movement on December 4, 2021), which was the ruling party during the three terms Rafael Correa was President of Ecuador. R25 quickly lost favor, along with the Alianza PAIS it helped to build, as the public associated it with the unpopular government of Lenín Moreno, especially through R25's most prominent figure and Moreno ally, María Paula Romo. R25 leaders as a consequence decided to dissolve their party and rebrand it the Construye Movement on August 24, 2020, giving it a more right-leaning philosophy. The new Construye Party announced on May 19, 2023 that it would sponsor prosecutor Fernando Villavicencio as its presidential candidate ahead of elections planned for August 20, 2023. Party entrusted Christian Zurita on August 13, 2023 to replace Villavicencio after he was assassinated on August 9. Party is led by its general secretary Ivan Gonzalez Vasconem [Construye Movement (MC25)]. |
