Rock Island mayor not to run for reelection
ROCK ISLAND, Illinois -- Mayor Mark Schwiebert announced Wednesday he will not run for reelection in the Februrary primary.
Schwiebert has served as the mayor of Rock Island since May 1989. Before becoming mayor, Schwiebert served on the Rock Island City Council.
In a special May 2006 primary, Mark Schwiebert ran against four other men including Phil Hare to fill the remaining term of Rep. Lane Evans, who was retiring from Congress.
Schwiebert was born and raised in the Quad Cities, attending Rock Island public schools and Augustana college. He also has a law degree from Drake University.
