Description | It’s likely to be the most quoted line of the evening: “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence, and I don’t think he did, either.” The problem for President Joe Biden is that well before Donald Trump said that, Biden partisans from one end of the country to the other were saying pretty much the same thing. |

Biden is cooked.
Trump is not a good debater, and Biden showed this in 2020. But the last 4 years have apparently taken a toll. Biden looked senile.

We elected an Alzheimer's patient before AND WE'LL DO IT AGAIN!!!!
I'd say that the 2nd debate will have more of a factor on peoples voting intentions than this one

the "fun" part about replacement scenarios is how the people most keen to a replacement are also the people most keen to bash plausible replacements. It's Backup Quarterback syndrome
at least there's a good reason for not ever doing general election debates before the conventions again

But seriously nothing makes a Democrat sour on their electoral chances more than that rare occasion when the blood moon rises and a GOP talking point is proven to have a basis in realilty.

Everyone knows Biden can't win the election now.
The people who scream otherwise the loudest, are simply the ones most upset about the new status quo. So what's next?
Biden will still be on the ballot, albeit getting single digits and ZERO Electoral Votes come November, as a de facto Third Party candidate. The usual two-candidate dynamic will assert itself, and we'll soon have a Kennedy versus Trump race.
I'm open to other nifty suggestions, but unless someone can convince Joe and especially the Hon. Doctor Jill Biden that he should retire (fat chance), then he's the nominee. Even if the Cabinet does their duty, and removes him from office under the 25th Amendment, that would only make Kamala Harris the President until January 20th. It wouldn't somehow confer the nomination upon her (as most people seem to assume).
Everybody in the DNC, and all their supporters (except for a couple people here who are still embarrassing themselves by displaying their emotional investment in Joe Biden), want to swap out the nominee. But that requires Biden's assent. He's about as likely to voluntarily give up office as Stalin would be.
Or Trump, for that matter. There is no rationale for why Joe Biden shouldn't be the 2024 Democratic nominee, to which Joe Biden will ever stipulate agreement.

I think the point isn't that Biden simply "lost a debate" like Obama did in 2012, but that his debate presence was so bad that it has almost everyone questioning his mental acuity. Especially and most viciously from those liberal influencers in legacy media (NYT, Wash Post, CNN, MSNBC, etc.). And those liberal influencers are panicking because they rightly realize that it is going to be especially hard to change people's opinion that Biden is not mentally fit for the job. Very very tough to turn that opinion around.
Additionally, there are scarce "big events" during a campaign and this big event has made many low propensity Biden voters less likely to vote for him or possibly even come to the polls (bad for down ballot candidates). So even if Trump doesn't gain one voter from this, he gains by Biden losing.
Finally, States where he needs to turn it around like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Nevada are probably lost and that's why @Jason is right - Biden is cooked. Biden's ceiling of electoral votes just shrank.
Apparently Whitmer is reportedly have said to Biden campaign manager that Michigan is not winnable at all.

The idea that this debate is somehow comparable to the first debates in 1984, 1996, 2004, and 2012 (all of which I saw live, at the time) is preposterous. Reagan definitely came off as a touch mentally slow in his first debate with Mondale, for example...but it was about three percent as severe as the ridiculous fiasco to which Biden has subjected us. Anyone making this comparison, is either a liar, or has no idea what they're talking about.

Now his advisors are saying that Biden did do well because he operates best from 10 AM to 4 PM. Can you imagine if any terrorist organizations, Russia, Iran, or North Korea start attacking US interests at 4:01 P.M. or 9:59 A.M. because Biden is not functioning well at these tines.
