DescriptionIn the aftermath of the May 25 police killing of George Floyd, the Minneapolis City Council pledged to defund its police department in June as Black Lives Matter protests demanded the reallocation of law enforcement funding.

Now, some city council members may want to walk back the decision.

The New York Times reports that several council members said that while they supported the pledge to overhaul the Minneapolis Police Department, some of the language is subjective and perplexed Minneapolis communities.

There was no "defunding" of the police. I'm so sick of this lie. The Minneapolis Police Department destroyed their authority and credibility by getting out of control and killing innocent people. If there is a crime wave, their officers are responsible for their lack of ability to effectively respond.
