Description | Tyler Olson, the youthful face of Iowa politics, is running for governor at a time when the Republican party is worried about its inadequacy in connecting with younger voters.
Olson, 37, the vice president of a Cedar Rapids electrical contracting company who has been a state lawmaker for 6 ½ years, announced his candidacy this morning in his home town. He also has events at 12:45 p.m. today at the Iowa Capitol and at 3:45 p.m. in Mason City.
“I’m a forward looking guy,” Olson told The Des Moines Register in an interview this morning. “I think that my experience and my energy make me the best candidate to begin the next 30 years.
“It’s a mix of the business experience in an industry that’s rapidly changing. In order to keep being successful, you have to adapt and it takes a vision of where the economy is moving to have the pieces in place to be successful. And that’s the experience I want to bring to Terrace Hill.” |
