In an effort to excite young people, Former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson participated in a web video for “The Can Kicks Back” campaign that includes dancing to Korean rap artist PSY’s “Gangnam Style.” A reference to the idea that Congress can “kick the can down the road” to avoid making difficult decisions about how to lower the nation’s debt, “The Can Kicks Back” campaign has released this web video as part of a campaign to encourage young people to become more involved in the ongoing fiscal cliff discussion in Congress.
Simpson, 81, poses a question to viewers, asking “How can young Americans fix our $16 trillion national debt?” He tells young people to “Stop instagramming your breakfast and tweeting your first world problems” and to use those social media skills to mobilize others and sign people up for this campaign. Halfway into the video, the former co-chair of President Obama’s debt commission starts doing the popular dance.
