Description | No surprises in party nominations and endorsements on the U.S. Senate front today: The state Democratic Party, as expected, formally went with incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand -- who also picked up the Working Families Party nod -- and the state Conservative Party backed attorney Wendy Long.
Long, the unanimous (as expected) choice of the Conservative Party, picked up just over 47% of the weighted vote at last week's Republican state convention in Rochester -- far more than either of her competitors, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and NY-9 Rep. Bob Turner, but not the 50% required to give her the nomination outright.
Gillibrand will also appear on the WFP line -- Row D -- in the November contest, and previously picked up the endorsement of the Independence Party. |
