Description | HANCOCK, Maine — Texas Congress Ron Paul was the top choice in a presidential nominee preference poll conducted by registered Republican voters here as Maine winds up its controversial GOP caucuses.
Paul attracted 41 votes, more than twice the votes for Mitt Romney, who had 16. Rick Santorum attracted 17 votes, while Newt Gingrich finished last with 9.
Saturday morning’s caucuses represented the Hancock County communities of Fletcher’s Landing, Gouldsboro, Hancock, Lamoine, Sorrento, Sullivan, Waltham and Winter Harbor.
Most towns in Hancock County and around the state caucused in the past few weeks. With the newest results, Ron Paul currently carries the county with 135 votes compared to Mitt Romney’s 128, according to an unofficial tabulation by the Bangor Daily News, although six towns in Hancock County remain unreported.
Paul also picked up four more votes in Clinton, which also caucused Saturday morning. Romney received two votes there. |
