DescriptionNews 13 has confirmed that North Carolina 11th District Rep. Heath Shuler will not seek re-election in 2012. However, Shuler will finish out his third term.

At this point, no official reason has been given as to why Shuler will not run for re-election. The 11th district got a major facelift when the congressional maps were redrawn last year, and most of Asheville was moved into the 10th district. It is now considered one of the most republican districts in North Carolina.

This leaves Cecil Bothwell as the only announced democrat in the 11th district race. There are several candidates vying for the republican nomination.
