Report: Legislator Womble drove into car's path in fatal wreck

| Description | State Rep. Larry Womble drove into the path of an oncoming car Friday night in an accident that killed the other driver and left the veteran legislator hospitalized with grave injuries.
According to a Winston-Salem police report, Womble, 70, crossed the center line of a Winston-Salem road and hit the car of David Allen Carmichael, 54.
Carmichael died at the scene, and Womble is being treated at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Police said there is no evidence that excessive speed or drug or alcohol use contributed to the accident. Blood samples taken from both drivers will be submitted for analysis, police said.
Womble and Carmichael lived less than a mile apart. The accident occurred near their homes about 11 p.m. |
