Description | Some black activists and Prospect Avenue residents are promising to mount stiff resistance to a plan to rename Prospect Avenue.
Kansas City Council member Jermaine Reed wants to change the the street's name. He wants it to be called Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Reed said it could lead to a change in the culture and a revival of the area.
"This is a trivial distraction," attorney and activist Clinton Adams said.
Activist Pat Clark agreed. Clark said most of the crime in the area is committed by people who don't even know King's contributions to American history and the Civil Rights movement.
"They think MLK is a holiday," Clark said. |
