Description | Bobby Jindal said Thursday in a Lafayette restaurant that he would make a public statement within the next seven days about his future in politics.
Jindal is on a tour of the state to thank supporters during last fall’s governor’s race against Kathleen Blanco of Lafayette.
He won the primary race but lost in the runoff to Blanco.
Jindal, who grew up and lived in Baton Rouge, recently purchased a home in Kenner, which is in the First Congressional District represented by U.S. Rep. David Vitter. He said he and his wife bought the house because it is closer to his wife’s family.
Vitter has already announced he is running for the Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. John Breaux, D-Crowley. Speculation by political veterans is that Jindal will run for Vitter’s vacant seat next fall.
In last fall’s gubernatorial race, Jindal carried suburban New Orleans, including a portion of the First District.
Jindal also carried Lafayette Parish.
He said he had no plans to move to Lafayette to possibly run for a House seat in Congress that might be left open if U.S. Rep. Chris John runs for Breaux’s Senate seat.
