Description | In normal times, Donna Frye roams the lonely frontiers of the San Diego City Council, at odds with Mayor Dick Murphy on a host of issues, on the short end of many 8-1 council votes, left behind when the mayor hands out goodies such as committee leadership posts.
Frye is a product of San Diego's beach culture, with a bedrock following among environmentalists and labor unions, and seems a breed apart from San Diego's political establishment.
But these are not normal times – a mayor's race is under way, the political winds are unsettled, one-third of the council is under federal indictment – and Frye's populist qualities have suddenly made her a hot political property. |
