Description | Former first lady Christie Vilsack announced this morning she is exploring a run for Congress – and her political website is up and soliciting donations.
Vilsack, a Democrat, will move to Ames next month to prepare to compete against Republican U.S. Rep. Steve King of Kiron. It would be her first run for elected office.
Today, she is forming an exploratory committee to study seeking the Democratic nomination to be the candidate to face King in fall 2012, said family friend Matt Paul, a Democratic strategist who was a staffer for Tom Vilsack when he was governor from 1999 to 2007.
“It’s important to listen to Iowa families about the issues they want addressed in Congress,” Christie Vilsack said in a statement. “Hearing directly from citizens about their concerns and ideas is very important to me. Too often in campaigns, it’s the other way around.”
The “Christie Vilsack for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District” website, with a V logo, asks people for a head start on fund-raising “as I consider running.” Her new Twitter page had 111 followers as of 1:15 p.m. |
