Description | "Three more elected Mississippi Democrats have switched to the Republican Party, bringing the total to 17 to make the change in two years.
State Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Brookhaven, state Rep. Bobby Shows of Ellisville and Simpson County Superintendent of Education Joe Welch announced they were switching parties during a news conference Tuesday at Mississippi's GOP headquarters.
The changes don't shift the balance of power in the Legislature.
Hyde-Smith has served in the Senate since 2000. She is chairwoman of the Agriculture and Forestry committees.
Shows has served House since 1992.
Welch is in his first term as superintendent." |
