Description | St. Louis and Charlotte, N.C., are the final two contenders to host the 2012 Democratic convention, insiders told Politico.
St. Louis’ bid enjoys political support from both Missouri and Illinois leaders, including U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., Gov. Jay Nixon, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, according to Politico.
The hotel workers union UNITE HERE has backed St. Louis as a potential host. Charlotte, on the other hand, is the only finalist city without union hotels.
But Charlotte’s “bid has something of an inside track, with former Democratic National Committee Executive Director Tom McMahon and former DNC Communications Director Karen Finney serving as consultants,” Politico reports.
