Description | Former lieutenant governor candidate Rod Smith appears to have locked up the votes to become the next chairman of Florida's beleaguered Democratic Party.
Smith, a moderate former state senator and prosecutor from Gainesville, had faced a longshot challenge from Tallahassee City Commissioner Andrew Gillum. But Smith, 61, had secured so many commitments of support that Gillum, 31, called it quits Thursday and endorsed the establishment favorite. |
