Description | The stage was awfully crowded on Monday night for what might have been the only debate of New York's gubernatorial campaign, with five niche party candidates joining the two big boys. So before we dissect the proceedings, let's be clear on who's who:
Andrew Cuomo: Democratic Party; current attorney general; had his anger-management skills on full display
Carl Paladino: Republican, Conservative and Taxpayer Parties; surprise GOP primary winner who has exhibited campaign behavior normally expected from Linda McMahon’s WWE employees
Charles Barron: Nehru-clad Freedom Party; attacks Cuomo’s ethics aggressively
Jimmy McMillan: Rent is Too Damn High Party; sports manic facial hair, wears black gloves, and sounds like cross between Professor Irwin Corey and Jesse Jackson
Howie Hawkins: Green Party; unclear where he stands on most issues, except against hydraulic fracturing for oil and for continued vilification of Wall Street
Kristin Davis: Anti-Prohibition Party; former madam; wants to legalize pot and casino gambling. Credit for the most blue eye shadow and pink lipstick ever worn at a gubernatorial debate
Warren Redlich: Libertarian Party; wonky and strangely likeable |
