Description | Robert Watada (D), Hawai'i's Campaign Spending Commission Executive Director, has collected nearly $1 million in fines, sought jail time for a prominent lawyer, community service for business leaders, and forced a resignation of the Honolulu Police Commissioner.
Watada's probes [which in other states are the responsibility of the Attorney General] are hitting hard at the Democratic political machine and its most influential leaders - most notably Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris.
The civil and criminal reckoning has been an embarrassment for Democratic leadership. It played a role in giving Hawai'i its first elected Republican governor in 40 years. |
