Description | Newark Mayor Cory Booker easily won a second term tonight, but with a tighter margin of victory than in 2006, and at least one of his council candidates was defeated, according to unofficial election results.
Booker had 59 percent of the vote, beating three challengers — Clifford Minor, Yvonne Garrett Moore and Mirna L. White — who spent just a fraction of the $5.5 million the incumbent mayor allocated to the race.
In comparison, in 2006, Booker won with a clear mandate of 72 percent of the vote, and his slate of nine council candidates was elected. |
