DescriptionGALLUP, N.M. (AP) - State Public Regulation Commissioner Carol Sloan was found guilty Thursday of two felonies, aggravated battery and aggravated burglary.

Her attorney, Joshua Moon, says he will appeal.

Prosecutors say Sloan attacked another woman, Brenda Yazzie, with a rock on July 14 after accusing Yazzie of having an affair with her husband.

Sloan testified in state district court in Gallup on Wednesday she never struck the woman with a rock, and claimed she had no knowledge about her injuries.

Jurors found Sloan not guilty of a third charge, criminal damage to property.

State District Judge Louis E. DePauli scheduled sentencing for May 20. Sloan faces up to 12 years in prison.

The chief prosecutor, Lyndy Bennett, says the physical evidence backed up Yazzie's story.
