Description | Former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton argued this morning that fairness demands an African-American representative from the 9th Congressional District.
Appearing on WREG-TV Channel 3’s “Live at 9,” Herenton, who’s running for the seat now held by Rep. Steve Cohen, held up a graphic with the photos of Tennessee’s U.S. senators and congressmen headlined, “What’s wrong with this picture?”

There are no African-American senators or congressmen from Tennessee.
“This is an 11-member delegation. If you look at this picture, and you’re African-American, you sense the lack of representation,” said Herenton, who resigned as mayor last summer. |
