Description | SANTA FE, N.M. -- According to the Albuquerque Journal, the son of long-time New Mexico politician Pete Domenici is thinking about running for governor.
Action 7 News Reporter Rod Green ran into Thelma Domenici at a North Valley restaurant. She confirmed that the story in the Journal is true and she approves.
"It felt pretty good to see Pete Jr.'s name there this morning. I think it's a pretty good name," said Thelma Domenici, Pete Domenici Jr.'s aunt.
According to political analyst Brian Sanderoff, there are four Republicans in the primary race for governor but none of them is a household name.
Domenici Jr. has little time on the public stage, so the fact that he is the son of one of the most popular politicians in New Mexico history goes a long way.
Sanderoff said Domenici Jr. could also benefit from his father's fundraising contacts at a time when political cash is tight, and that Pete Sr. could provide powerful connections with party leaders but in the end, Pete Domenici Jr. would have to establish his own identity. |
