Description | A candidate to be Birmingham's next mayor died last night at his home in Hoover.
Ernie Shardon Dunn, 49, died at his home in Hoover shortly after 7 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
Mr. Dunn had a history of medical problems that authorities said they believe led to his death.
A neighbor walking by the home saw Mr. Dunn's door was partially open and that he was laying on the floor, said Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
His body was taken to Rocko's Funeral Home in Montevallo, Coker said.
In a Birmingham News profile published today, Mr. Dunn said he was running for office because he needs a job.
"I've been trying to get back into the job market and the mayor's job came open. I figured why don't I give it a try. I'll make good decisions for everyone, but I need a paycheck. I'm hunÂgry just like everyone else," Mr. Dunn said. |
