Description | Congressman Bobby Bright said the United States can’t afford to leave Afghanistan now, but it can’t afford to stay very long, either.
Bright, D-Montgomery, recently returned from Afghanistan and said he witnessed a country that would almost certainly be taken over by the Taliban again if Coalition forces were to leave now.
“The instability of the government is evident,” said Bright, who went on the trip as part of his duties as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, as well as the subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities. “The government has to be stabilized.”
Bright met with several military leaders on the trip including Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. Commander in Afghanistan. |
