Description | Wisconsin's Democratic Party stepped up its legal attacks Friday on state Sen. Dan Kapanke (R-La Crosse) by filing a lawsuit and calling on a prosecutor to investigate him for possible open records law violations.
The party acted just days after Kapanke announced his candidacy to challenge U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.) in 2010.
Democrats are alleging that Kapanke's staff illegally conducted campaign activities on state time, and they have demanded that he give them documents to prove their case. Kapanke denies the allegations and says he doesn't have the documents.
On Friday, the party filed suit, asking a Dane County Circuit Court judge to order Kapanke to produce the documents. At the same time, the party asked La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke to investigate whether Kapanke destroyed or withheld public records. |
