Description | ndy Montroll, 51, a 15-year veteran of the Burlington City Council from Ward 6, finally got the nod for mayor Wednesday.
Montroll lost the Democratic nomination in 2002 to Progressive Mayor Peter Clavelle, who wanted the big "D" after his name when he ran for governor in 2005. And in January of 2006, Montroll lost narrowly -- 550 to 511 -- to state Sen. Hinda Miller, who lost to Progressive Bob Kiss in the general election.
Wednesday, Montroll was chosen by acclamation by the 250-or-so Democrats who crowded into the auditorium at Champlain Elementary School for the party caucus.
He will face Kiss, who is seeking a second term, and independent Dan Smith, who launched his campaign Tuesday. Council President Kurt Wright, R-Ward 4, is also expected to run. |
