Description | With Foley leaving, no takers for Brookhaven's top job
BY PATRICK WHITTLE
November 6, 2008
In an era marked by job shortages, resumes are not exactly piling up for Brookhaven Town's soon-to-be-vacated chief elected position.
Supervisor Brian X. Foley, who won a State Senate seat on Tuesday, is expected to leave his post on Jan. 1, the day he is to be sworn in to his Albany post. A special election is on tap for sometime in March.
But so far, no members from either party have put their names in the ring to lead the politically divided town, where Republicans hold a 4-3 edge on the town board and bitter infighting is the norm at public meetings. Political insiders said the lack of suitors is the result of caginess on the part of potential candidates - and the unappealing nature of the job. |
