DescriptionLOCAL supporters of Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are revving up the campaigns for their respective camps as Guam Democrats gear up for Saturday's caucuses to elect delegates. Dozens of Clinton supporters staged a rally at the ITC intersection in Tamuning during rush hour yesterday, waving for a campaign to "put a woman in the White House" and distributing shirts endorsing the New York senator. Obama supporters, on the other hand, will gather for a rally at the Micronesia Mall intersection in Dededo at 4 p.m. tomorrow to drum up support for "Barack Obama's movement for change," according to the Chicago senator's campaign office. At yesterday's rally at the ITC intersection, supporters -- mostly from the education and healthcare sector -- said Clinton's position on healthcare and other Guam-related issues gives a preview of the island's future under her administration. "Hillary Clinton is the best choice for Democrats. In all the interviews she has done for Guam, she has been fully supportive of lifting the critical Medicaid cap. She supports Guam's voting rights and she's the first to support Guam war reparation. She's also the first to introduce real universal health coverage," said Dr. Thomas Shieh. Obama, on the other hand, has reservations about lifting the Medicaid cap, Shieh said. "He said he will reexamine the Medicaid cap. There's no need for reexamination. The cap needs to be lifted for Guam so that our people can get equal healthcare opportunity." Sen. David Shimizu, D-Inarajan, also said Clinton has a more personal connection to the people of Guam. "She has been here; she has met our people," said Shimizu, who is running for national committeeman. "She has made key promises. She's a woman and women are more likely to keep their promises."
