Description | By JASON TRAHAN / The Dallas Morning News
Former Dallas City Councilman James Fantroy was convicted by a federal jury Thursday of stealing more than $20,000 from a Paul Quinn College development fund which he oversaw as treasurer.
“I’m OK,” the former four-term councilman silently mouthed to his attorney, David Pire, after the eight-man, four-woman jury rendered their unanimous verdict after little more than a half hour of deliberations.
The jury foreman said that there was not any hesitation by any panelist of the defendant’s guilt after hearing three-and-a-half days of damaging government testimony.
“It was pretty straightforward,” said Paul Garrett, 37. “We all pretty much agreed.”
“We’re pleased with the verdict,” U.S. Attorney Richard Roper said. “I think this shows what the citizens think about people violating the public trust, particularly of an organization that is as critical to the community as Paul Quinn College.” |
