DescriptionALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) - Former state Rep. Terry Marquardt has become the seventh candidate to seek the Republican nomination for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District seat.
The Alamogordo Daily News reports the 58-year-old physician announced his candidacy Thursday in his home town of Alamogordo.

Marquardt was New Mexico House member from 1994 to 2006.

Steve Pearce is giving up his 2nd District seat in a bid for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Pete Domenici, who is retiring because he has an incurable brain disease.

Other 2nd District Republican candidates are Las Cruces businessman Greg Sowards; Hobbs Mayor Monty Newman; rancher and retired banker Aubrey Dunn Jr.; restaurant owner and rancher Ed Tinsley of Capitan; Bob Cornelius of Tatum and real estate broker C. Earl Greer of Truth or Consequences
