Description | HARRISBURG -- Two longtime state legislators from Western Pennsylvania won't seek re-election this year.
Sen. Gerald LaValle, D-Rochester, and Rep. Tom Petrone, D-Crafton Heights, have added their names to a list of legislators who are retiring. So far, three other senators are retiring, eight other House members are retiring and two House members have said they'll leave the House to run for the Senate.
Mr. LaValle has been in the Senate since 1991 and is currently the Democratic chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee. Mr. Petrone has been in the House since 1981.
Mr. LaValle has also served as a Beaver County commissioner and mayor of Rochester. It isn't known yet who may seek his seat. At least two people are running for Mr. Petrone's seat -- his chief of staff, Ryan Douglass, and Pittsburgh Councilman Dan Deasy. |
