Description | Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison has confirmed having an extramarital affair with a former staffer, but he is disputing allegations that he asked her for information about her new boss, Phill Kline.
Linda Carter, who worked in the Johnson County District Attorney’s office — first under Morrison and then under Kline — has filed a sexual harassment complaint alleging that she and Morrison had a two-year sexual relationship.
The allegations were reported today in The Topeka Capital-Journal.
She said Morrison asked her for information about investigations in Kline’s office, and asked her to influence pending litigation.
The relationship began in September 2005 and continued until this September, according to the woman’s complaint, filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission last month. According to the District Attorney’s office, Carter left her job Nov. 30.
In a statement, Morrison acknowledged the relationship but disputed many of Carter’s allegations. He said he never harassed or discriminated against Carter, and noted that she “repeatedly sought employment in the Attorney General’s office after I was sworn in.”
“Unfortunately, it is true, however, that I once had a consensual relationship with Mrs. Carter. And I profoundly regret that I did,” Morrison said. “...Mrs. Carter’s false allegations are being leveled more than 11 months after my employment at the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office ended.” |
