Description | Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article.
An excerpt...
"A Philadelphia-area businessman with political ties to Gov. Ed Rendell is making a hard and early charge to become the next state treasurer.
Montgomery County venture capitalist Rob McCord has raised more than $1.5 million to seek the 2008 Democratic nomination for treasurer, according to a finance report his campaign filed this week with the Pennsylvania State Department.
McCord's early fundraising tally in his first campaign for public office nearly equals the amount spent in 2004 by the Republican and Democratic nominees combined.
"That's a huge amount of money this early for a state row office," said Joseph DiSarro, chairman of the political science department at Washington & Jefferson College.
McCord gave his campaign $200,000. The next largest contribution was $100,000 from Dr. Syed Raza Bokhari, of Villanova, president of Lakewood Pathology Associates in Lakewood, N.J.
McCord received $30,000 from Barbara Hafer's political committee. Hafer, a prominent political figure from Elizabeth Borough, had previously expressed interest in returning to the treasurer's office, where she served two terms.
Hafer, also a former Allegheny County commissioner and state auditor general, says she's backing McCord." |
