Description | By GROMER JEFFERS Jr. and DAVE LEVINTHAL / The Dallas Morning News
The race for Dallas mayor between Tom Leppert and Ed Oakley is too close to call and hinges on which candidate can kick-start a turnout machine that drives his base voters to the polls.
That's the result of a Dallas Morning News/WFAA-TV poll that shows Mr. Leppert with a razor-thin lead, 47 percent of those polled, compared with 45 percent for Mr. Oakley. Only 8 percent were undecided or did not respond. The margin of error among likely voters is 5.8 percentage points, meaning each response could vary that much in either direction.
"It could go either way," said pollster Mickey Blum. "It depends on who cares to show up and who's going to be pulling their voters. This is all about giving people a reason to show up on Saturday." |
