Description | Few days go by when former state Sen. Jim Whitehead isn't reminded of his goofy attack on his alma mater.
I guess that comes with the territory when you tell a newspaper the University of Georgia is full of "a bunch of liberals," adding except for its football team, someone ought to bomb it. Yes, comments like that should haunt you.
But usually folks learn from the inevitable verbal gaffes committed on the campaign trail. One would think the front-runner to fill former U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood's 10th District seat might count himself among the reformed.
But that's not the case.
Last week, in an article by Tom Crawford of Capitol Impact, Whitehead again strayed. I'll let the article explain:
" ... (For Whitehead) the big issue isn't Iraq but the other I-word: Immigration. 'Iraq has not been a big thing in our district,' said Whitehead, a former University of Georgia offensive lineman. 'Immigration is the number one issue, pure and simple.' Whitehead contends that 'left-wing political activists (are) intentionally registering illegal aliens to vote, including known al-Qaida terrorists.'" |
