DescriptionLou's List blog entry.

An excerpt...
"The Wall Street Journal [Link] takes a look at the collapse of the Republicans' majority in Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation only 4 years after the gerrymander they thought had secured it for the foreseeable future. The basic conclusion is that in their effort to create the maximum number of districts that Republicans could control, fewer districts were left with an absolutely reliable GOP base. Therefore, when swing voters swung strongly Democratic this year, four Republican incumbents lost."

"So the postmortem: Pennsylvania went from an 11-10 GOP majority in 2002 to a 12-7 Republican edge today, with an 11-8 Democratic advantage to come in January. Tuesday's elections were a victory not only for Democrats, but for all Pennsylvanians who resent the efforts of political insiders to choose their representatives for them through sophisticated partisan redistricting techniques. The Republicans who drew the lines may have been a little cocky when they assumed the swing votes would continue to swing their way, but the party shift wouldn't have happened if not for some major screw-ups by Republicans, from President Bush all the way to Curt Weldon, Don Sherwood, and the Bucks County GOP Committee."
