Description | MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Feb. 14 (AP) — A judge said on Wednesday that a new machine that is used to help determine if drivers are drunk is not always reliable and should be used with discretion and some adjustments, implying that thousands of convictions could be overturned.
The New Jersey Supreme Court, which agreed last year to make a decision about the machines, appointed a retired judge, Michael Patrick King, as a special master and asked him to make a recommendation.
In his report, which was submitted to the court on Tuesday and made public on Wednesday, Judge King suggested that judges should be able to consider other evidence in cases where the readings from the test, known as the Alcotest 7110, are close to the limit. |
