Description | Mayor Heather Fargo, who has quietly lived with multiple sclerosis for 10 years, went public with her condition Tuesday, and vowed to become active in the fight against the neurological disease.
In an interview late Tuesday, Fargo said she will continue as Sacramento's full-time mayor and still plans to run for a third term next year.
"I decided to treat my MS like I treat a lot of things in my life, becoming an activist and an advocate," Fargo said. "I've taken an activist role for parks, for my community, for the council, and now, for MS."
Fargo, 54, broke the news to her colleagues on the City Council behind closed doors Tuesday afternoon and has alerted the city's charter officers, she said. A letter to supporters has been sent in the mail, and she plans meetings with other city officials this week. |
