WASHINGTON — Her brief tenure in Congress is over, but Republican Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is taking steps to ensure she's not forgotten as she tries to work her way back to Washington.
The former Houston councilwoman, elected in November to fill the final weeks of the term that GOP incumbent Tom DeLay decided not to complete, is keeping an eagle eye on Stafford Democrat Nick Lampson, who claimed the 22nd District seat for the two-year term that began in January.
Sekula-Gibbs, who hopes for a rematch with Lampson in 2008, has sent campaign e-mails to supporters, criticizing Lampson's first votes of the year — on such issues as Medicare and the 9/11 commission's recommendations.
She's also touted her perfect attendance, proudly noting that she didn't miss a single one of the 25 legislative votes she was eligible to cast.
And, as her tenure drew to a close, Sekula-Gibbs trekked to the border to talk with law enforcement officials in Laredo about border security. |
