Description | The newest member of the Columbus Board of Education will bring the knowledge both of a graduate and of someone helping to raise children in the district.
President Terry Boyd said that is a main reason why the school board chose W. Shawna Gibbs from among 32 applicants to finish Karen Schwarzwalder’s term. Schwarzwalder announced in October that she would be leaving the board because she’s moving to Findlay, Ohio.
"We were looking for someone responsible, that understood the district and could come in running," Boyd said yesterday. "She came to the surface as a clear choice."
Gibbs, 32, will serve on the board until 2008. She also plans to run for election next year to a full, four-year term.
A graduate of Columbus Alternative High School, Gibbs is public-relations manager for the Girl Scouts Seal of Ohio Council, which oversees 26,000 children. She is a Democrat and graduated from Clark Atlanta University in Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in political science. |
