Description | "In the wake of the New Jersey Supreme Court's announcement today that it is legalizing same-sex marriage in the Garden State, Assemblymen Richard A. Merkt (R. - Morris) this afternoon pledged to introduce resolutions in the Legislature calling for the impeachment of each and every Justice who voted in favor of judicially redefining marriage in New Jersey.
"Under our state constitution, judges are charged with deciding cases impartially based on laws enacted by the people's elected representatives," declared Merkt, adding, "They are not empowered to substitute their own personal preferences for decisions duly voted by the Legislature. When they do, they violate their constitutional purpose, as well as their oath of office. Such a violation is judicial misconduct warranting their removal from the bench."
