Description | Chris Marr admits he's a driven, type-A personality. How driven? He set a goal last year of running a dozen marathons. He finished 14.
Marr plans to compete in the Boston Marathon this year – "If you qualify for Boston, you have to go," he says – but the Spokane Democrat will wear out more shoe leather running for the 6th District state Senate seat held by Republican Brad Benson.
Although the GOP has owned that seat since the 1940s, Benson appears vulnerable after beating Laurie Dolan by less than 1 percentage point in 2004. Marr says he respects Benson as a man of principle, but believes his pursuit of a right-wing agenda in Democratic Olympia has cost Eastern Washington badly needed state funds.
Besides Marr's promise to bring home more money for economic development and infrastructure improvement, what else should voters know about him? Well, he's charismatic enough to have given Cathy McMorris a scare in the 2004 congressional election – but he was smart enough to stay on the sidelines until a winnable race came along. |
