Description | Scandal breathing life into Laesch's campaign
October 5, 2006
By MATTHEW DEFOUR Staff writer
Laesch spent Wednesday interviewing with national media, from CNN to Spanish-language Univision to MSNBC's Hardball With Chris Matthews.
In Laesch's first exposure on national television, he challenged Hastert's statements following Rep. Mark Foley's resignation over sexually explicit Internet conversations with teenage congressional pages.
"Apparently he forgot," Laesch told Matthews when asked about Hastert's character. "But on page 186 of his book (Speaker), he says he listens to everything and he remembers everything."
Hastert has explained the timeline of events in numerous interviews, emphasizing that he didn't know about the scandal until last Friday. Over the weekend he called for criminal investigations into Foley's conduct and into who in Congress knew about the problem. |
