NEWARK, N.J. - The new mayor of New Jersey's largest city has developed strong name recognition across the state and nearly two-thirds of voters have a favorable opinion of him, according to a poll released Friday.
Cory Booker, a former Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law School graduate, won a landslide victory in May to succeed longtime Newark Mayor Sharpe James, who did not run.
Since his inauguration in July, Booker has enjoyed a relative honeymoon despite the city's high murder rate and his plans to raise property taxes.
The Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind Poll showed that a majority of New Jersey voters, 55 percent, said they recognize Booker. Only 3 percent said they have an unfavorable view of him; one-third were undecided. |
